Agriculture Education
The Agriculture Education Committee works to support local Burlington County teachers, parents and students in an effort to inspire a passion for agriculture.
The committee has educational series of “Ag-in-a-bag” projects for local teachers to help incorporate agriculture into their lesson plans in accordance with age-appropriate curriculum.
As a committee, we do not want financial restraints to prevent the opportunity for children to learn about agriculture and how impactful it is on our society. In addition to our "Ag-in-a-bag" programs, we are also working closely with local schools to determine what their specific needs are. We are offering the cooperating schools the opportunity to request agriculture-based book bundles to bolster their classroom libraries and necessary equipment that fits into their curriculum.
We've been able to successfully bring agriculture into local classrooms and inspire excitement for agriculture amongst school-aged children.
The exciting thing about any programs of work that focus primarily on children is that the impact extends far beyond their young minds. When kids become engaged and invested in a project and topic at school, they are often enthusiastic about it at home. Students that participate in a seed growing lesson in school will go home to their parents and families and gush about how fun and exciting their day was. By inspiring local youth, it can be thought of as a sort of “trickle-up” effect. The excitement works its way up to older generations. What could start as learning about seeds and growth in the classroom, may result in families starting their own gardens at home.
